Generally, we have to use heavy machinery to pull up the entire stump & root system, but there have been some cases where we did not. In those cases, we could use some good old-fashioned digging & a chainsaw.

Before you decide between removing the stump & root system or if you should stump grind the stump, you need to determine what the area will be used for. If you plan to re-plant a tree in that area, then stump grinding is not the best option because for the new tree to grow, the old tree stump & root system needs to be removed. If you plan to install a new lawn or landscape w/ short-rooted plants, stump grinding will be your best option.
